Why We Do What We Do

At the heart of many of India’s social and economic challenges lies one problem – the starkly unequal status of women.

It is to answer this crying need that we believe that investing in young women, especially those from underserved communities, is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting, inter-generational change. By equipping girls with skills and mechanisms that allow them to grow and find their voice, we are going beyond just enabling individuals – we are building women leaders who become catalysts for progress in their families, workplaces, and communities.

Letter from the Founders

Dear Reader,

Namaste!

To have the compassion and empathy to stand for inclusivity is the legacy that we have built our giving upon. Acknowledging that to be our greatest gift, we resolve to further the impact of our privilege.

It is with this intent that we at KARM, seek to enable the professional journeys of young women from economic disadvantage, by providing them with the necessary support that will allow them to enter workforces, become income generators and multipliers. Committed to the long-term aim of financial independence, longevity for women at workplaces, and gender parity, KARM is impacting the lives of women through the Fellowships it runs with personalised care. We bring in width of impact through KARM Awaaz that amplifies and inspires through lived stories, the KARM Conclave, which celebrates the spirit of sisterhood, inspiration and change, along with KARM Vidvata, an ever-growing library of knowledge, soft skill help and analytical tools to aid her academic and professional journey.

Because given the length that we need to cover, much needs to be done.

We are heartened by our alumni that stand apart for their attitude, skill and ambition, that gives us the confidence to acknowledge that slowly but surely, we are building a more equitable tomorrow for the young, Indian woman.

Thank you,

With a promise of much to do,

Radhika and Kartik

Family Legacy

Belonging to one of India’s most well-known business groups – the Shri Ram family, the founders of KARM live a life of purpose – one that is deeper than profit generation – as is their legacy.

Their great grandfather, Sir Shri Ram believed that “Only education can open the doors of prosperity, if one has to work towards alleviating inequality”. He set up the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in 1926 – an institution that retains its prestige today. He then established one of India’s few All-Women colleges – the Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) in 1956. Committed to education, he also established The Shri Ram Research Institute and The Anglo Sanskrit School…..
